Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Table
Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, demons, and sinister influences expanding in power within the city.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of characters who will split off from the main group to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear out of place, but the actions of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as key figures in the influential clan could assist the group enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.
Future Episodes
According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Planners parties.
Fans can expect discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
