Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after winning in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he lost control at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's car third fastest, over half a second off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
